I need advice for finding a closer relationship with God..?

I was raised in Church my whole life. Even now as I'm married, my Wife, myself and our kids are involved with and love our church. Unfortunately I was a wild child when I was younger and to this day pay for those mistakes but I have found peace with those mistakes and have moved forward. I am also a very cynical person. I always look for the logic in things and seem to look for the answer. Now I BELIEVE in God and Jesus. Absolutely, but I find it hard to keep a clear head and not let my mind wonder. I want a closer walk with God and I want to let go of the old me but its a constant battle between who I want(& need) to be and who I am. I know it says that if you seek him out, you will find him but I feel like I'm searching like a blind man in a snowstorm at night. Please Help!
