My new born is getting sick, pls help?

My son is just about 4weeks and he's all congested and he'll cough from time to time, not a real bad cough... what are some options that you might recommend, I went to the medi centre and the doctor told i can't really do anything but wait it out. what are some of the symptoms of amoanina or the flu?
