Just some general questions about asthma and bronchitis.?

i have asthma and my brother has had bronchitis for about a week, just got medicine yesterday. i read that it's highly contagious, and yesterday i got a bad cough, hacking and its producing mucus. Then today it was worse and now, my lungs are acting up like when my asthma gets bad but it doesnt make sense to me that it would be asthma since i took my medicine. Maybe its just worse cause my asthma. Maybe its something else?
